Some members, who joined either the Firefighter’s Pension Scheme (Fire 1992) or the New Firefighters’ Pension Scheme (Fire 2006) will join the Fire 2015 scheme but at a later date. This is because they were close to retirement when the Fire 2015 scheme was launched but they did not qualify for full protection.
This is known as tapered protection. To qualify you must have been paying into the scheme on 1 April 2012 and 1 April 2015 and be within four years of qualifying for full protection. More information is given in the Guide for members who joined before 1 April 2015.
SPPA will write to you if you qualify for tapered protection. Alternatively, if you have not already done so, you can answer the questions by clicking on the link “What does this mean for me ?”Watch the video
